• TRAINING PLAN •

For Everyone:

Emphasize FUN while building skills that are relevant to your group.

  • Before leaving the parking lot:
    • Count how many kids are in your group
    • Designate the ride leader and the sweep
    • Go over the necessary gear – does everyone have it?
      • Helmet, water, snack, tube, pump or co2, multi tool, quick link, medical?

PURPLE / BLUE / GREEN

Goal 1: Teaching skills, basic practice procedures & trail rules
Goal 2: Observe, collect and report feedback on the kids in your group.

  • Ride Plan:
    • Use the learner trails below the pump tracks and around the pond.
    • Warm up 10 minutes on the pavement or flat trails, easy spin, learn names in your group
    • Transition to easy dirt/gravel trails (pond area and along the railroad tracks)
      • Level pedals, Cover Brakes
      • Neutral/Ready Position (off the saddle) • Bike body separation
    • Transition to the trees
      • Climbing
      • Cornering
      • Ready position
    • When teaching:
      • Explain,Demonstrate,Questions,Tryit
      • Be positive!! Get to know the kids
  • Return around 7:50 to go over the ride.
    • What went well? What didn’t? What did you learn? What do you want to learn better?

YELLOW / ORANGE

Goal 1: Teaching skills, basic practice procedures & trail rules
Goal 2: Observe, collect and report feedback on the kids in your group.

  • Ride Plan:
    • Warm up 10 minutes – easy pedal in the learner trails below jump tracks, learn names in your group
    • Transition to the tunnel, spend as much time on single track as possible
      • Let the group spread naturally on the way up the fire road to see who is comfortable with a brisker steady pace. Could be useful to do this again later in the practice
      • Observe & review skills
      • Bike body position/Ready position • Level pedals/cover brakes
      • Climbing & Downhill on the single track
        • Who can keep up? Who needs to rest?
    • BST towards Gasline or Suspension Bridge might be a good choice if time allows
      • Explain, Demonstrate, Questions, Tryit
      • Be positive!! Get to know the kids
    • Return around 7:50 go over the ride. What went well? What didn’t? What did you learn? Was it too hard? Too easy?

BLACK / SILVER / PINK

  • Ride Plan:
    • Warm up 10 minutes – easy pedal up past the tunnel, learn kids names
    • Spend the most time on single track
      • Pick up the pace here and there to see which kids need endurance work • Observe & review skills
      • Bike body position/Ready position
      • Getting out of the saddle
      • Climbing & Downhill on the single track
      • Climbing and cornering body positions
      • Who can keep up? Who needs to rest?
      • This is a fun ride so let the kids help pick your trails today.
      • Explain, Demonstrate, Questions, Try it
      • Be positive!! Get to know the kids
    • Return around 7:50 go over the ride. What went well? What didn’t? What did you learn? Was it too hard? Too easy?
    • Work on base miles and be boss!
