ALL GROUPS
We are all meeting at Peak View Trailhead (parking lot at the top of rush). Please carpool if possible as parking is limited and we don’t want to consume the entire parking lot with our team. It’s a few minutes farther than Little Valley so plan to leave a little earlier.
We would like everyone to explore these new (to lots of our riders) trails as you continue to work on skills/endurance. Keep the pedaling at a Zone 2 “Chat Easily” pace, slowing down for riders that are feeling tired instead of stopping completely.
Below are some trail options that would be appropriate to different groups. You do not have to use them if you are familiar with the trails up here and have different ideas. The object is to have fun with new trails and work on skills based on the new terrain.
Off Limit Trails:
- Limelight (Rush)
- Jacob’s Ladder
- Levitate / Zooropa / Vertigo
- Maple Hollow DH
- Jump pump tracks
- Any trail where riders in your group intentionally jump their bikes. This means if riders jump, that trail immediately becomes officially off limits to that group until the group gets permission from the head coaches.
Trails only Pink, Black, Silver & Red can do & today only this includes Orange, Yellow, Green :
- Upper Rush (which is the section from the Peakview Trailhead down to the upper intersection with Canyon Hollow by the s-curves and bridge, and includes the following named trails: Rush Flow, Through the Trees, and the upper part of Exit Stage Left)
- Middle Rush (which includes the section of Exit Stage Left from the intersection with Canyon Hollow by the s-curves and bridge down to where Rush crosses the lower part of Canyon Hollow)
- Lower Rush (which includes the section from where Rush crosses the lower part of Canyon Hollow down to the five-way intersection)
Since we are starting our practice at Peak View, we have a unique opportunity to be on Rush before any of the fast Corner Canyon groups will be going down it at crazy fast speeds. This trail becomes more dangerous for both the faster and the slower riders when they are all coming down on top of each other. Remind your group that what they choose to go down, they will also be climbing back up with little to no stopping so they can get back to the parking lot by 8. So take that into consideration when deciding where to ride. There are a lot of fun trails on the backside that most of our groups don’t ever reach that teach great skills and are fun and flowy.
Ride Leaders opting to go down Rush: You MUST ride down at the speed that is appropriate for your ride groups to get down safely, not at your speed. It is not the time to see if you can push them on the downhill and create gapping. There has to be decent spacing and speed control dictated by the ride leaders in order to emphasize safety. We fully expect your groups to be complaining that the ride leader in front is going too slow.
PINK / BLACK / SILVER / RED
Pink and black will combine today.
Find some new terrain and work on skills at speeds appropriate for your ride groups. Explore and have fun, peacemaker, longview, porcupine for example. Find some trails you don’t normally ride. If you normally ride rush as a group, then ride something different today.
ORANGE
This group should split into two groups before setting off. Riding down Peacemaker and Porc-u-Pine would be great places to practice some downhill skills like bike body separation, leaning the bike and switchbacks. Practicing rocky sections on Eagle Crest is another option.
GREEN / YELLOW
Porc-U-Pine laps could be really great for these groups to work on bike body separation. The first lap would be a chance for everyone to familiarize themselves with the trail. Before starting any other laps, have a quick chat about the skill they need to focus on (i.e. leaning the bike side to side around the trees instead of steering with their handlebars). Baby Achtung could be a fun add on if you’re sure to find the turn off back onto the road. Don’t ride Baby Achtung all the way down or you might not make it back by the end of practice.
PURPLE / BLUE
It might be helpful to do a few laps on the learner loop behind the bathrooms as a warm up. Head towards Porc-U-Pine for either an out and back or a loop around porc-u-pine depending on what time permits and how the group is feeling. Baby Achtung could be a fun add on if you’re sure to find the turn off back onto the road. Don’t ride Baby Achtung all the way down or you might not make it back by the end of practice.
