With the second race of the season on Saturday morning, we will ask that all ride groups have a mellow ride tonight. Each group should keep a comfortable conversational pace for all riders in the group. We want to spin our legs, and get our heart rates up, but not to the point where it becomes a workout with impacts that carry over to Saturday morning’s race.
Talk with your groups about the race course. Take the opportunity to find some rocky sections of trails that are a little more technical to go up and down several times. Downhill berms would also be helpful to practice. For those riders who are less comfortable on the rocks, have them try to climb over the rocky bits at a slower speed first. Then have them attack the same rocks at a slightly faster more aggressive speed. Remind them that speed is their friend when going over those chunky rocky sections. If you happen across some loose/sandy areas, remind riders to sit back on their bikes, heavy in their pedals, and relaxed grip on their handlebars.
